Poinsettia Care Tips: Keep Your Holiday Plant Thriving

Poinsettias are the quintessential holiday plant, loved for their bold red, white, or pink bracts that bring festive cheer to any space. With the right care, these beauties can stay vibrant well beyond the holidays—and even rebloom next year.

1. Light:
Place your poinsettia in bright, indirect sunlight. A south-, east-, or west-facing window is ideal. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.

2. Temperature:
Keep your poinsettia in a warm spot—ideally between 65–75°F during the day and above 60°F at night. Protect it from drafts, heaters, and cold windows.

3. Watering:
Water only when the top inch of soil feels dry. Let excess water drain completely; never let the plant sit in standing water, as that leads to root rot.

4. Humidity:
Poinsettias prefer moderate humidity. If your home is dry, mist the leaves occasionally or place the pot on a tray of pebbles and water to raise humidity around the plant.

5. After the Holidays:
Continue watering and provide bright light. Around April, repot with fresh soil and feed monthly with a balanced fertilizer.

6. Reblooming Next Year:
Starting in early October, give your poinsettia 14 hours of total darkness each night and bright light during the day for about eight weeks. This triggers the return of its signature color in time for the holidays.

With a little consistency, your poinsettia can be more than just a seasonal decoration—it can become a long-lasting part of your holiday tradition!
